Areas of Focus
PIH-SL strives to make health care a human right for all people, starting with those who need it most. We provide comprehensive primary, maternal and mental health care services as well as treatment for complex diseases like HIV and tuberculosis and train the next generation of health care workers.
The clinical education program focuses on empowering the next generation of health care workers in Sierra Leone, building their capacity to improve systems and offer quality care to patients.
The Emergency Nurse Training Program teaches nurses at Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) essential skills to provide emergency and critical care services.

Since 2017, PIH-SL has expanded community and clinic-based mental health care in Kono District, transformed the oldest psychiatric hospital in sub-Saharan Africa, introduced the nation’s first mental health helpline, and piloted the nation’s first Psychiatry Residency at the Sierra Leone Psychiatric Teaching Hospital (SLPTH).
